Anaheim, CA - Orange Micro, a leading developer of add on cards for PC and Macintosh has begun shipping the long awaited OrangeCombo Notebook Card for portable laptop computers. The OrangeCombo provides both of the newest interface technologies, USB 2.0 and FireWire, on a single card. The OrangeCombo will upgrade the computing experience for users of both PC and Macintosh laptop computers.

The OrangeCombo provides two USB 2.0 ports, one 6 pin FireWire port, and one 4 pin FireWire port, which can all be used simultaneously. Users can connect their DV Camcorder to stream in video, download files from their Firewire Hard Drive, and burn CD’s on their USB 2.0 CD Burner all at top speeds and without a single eject or reboot necessary. The OrangeCombo card also comes with a power supply to provide 500 mA of power per port for USB peripherals requiring power. Examples might be a USB optical mouse or a bus powered USB portable disk drive.

Product Details: The OrangeCombo has an MSRP of $119 and will ship in April. Video editing software, a USB 2.0 high speed cable, and a FireWire cable are included in the package. The OrangeCombo also comes with USB 2.0 and FireWire drivers to support Windows 98SE and newer, as well as Mac OS X.

The USB 2.0 ports on the OrangeCombo are "backward compatible" with all USB 1.1 devices which means that either USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 devices can be plugged in and both will run at their individual rated speeds. USB 2.0 peripherals will run at 480 Mb/s compared to the USB 1.1 speed of 10 Mb/s. Also, the USB 2.0 will function simultaneously with the existing USB 1.1 ports commonly found on today’s laptops. The FireWire port will run at 400 Mb/s simultaneously with the USB 2.0 ports.
