SUBJECT: Orange Micro® is first to ship USB 2.0 Hi-Speed + FireWire Combo PCI Board

Anaheim, CA - Orange Micro announced today that it will commence worldwide shipment of its OrangeLink+ USB 2.0/FireWire Combo PCI Board. Orange Micro, a 21 year old developer of PC/Mac enhancement cards, specializes in USB 2.0, FireWire, SCSI and related products.

What is USB 2.0?
USB 2.0 is a new technology (also known as USB 2.0 Hi-Speed) which allows users to connect faster peripherals to their computers. USB 2.0 transfers data at 480 Mbits/sec compared to the current USB 1.1 (12 Mbits/sec) which is prevalent on all late model PC and Mac computers. This means that USB 2.0 is 40 times faster than current USB 1.1.

USB 2.0 can offer dramatic speed increases in peripheral data transfer for USB 2.0 based printers, scanners, hard disks, digital still cameras, web cams, etc.

The OrangeLink+ USB 2.0/FireWire Combo PCI Board

The OrangeLink+ has four USB 2.0 ports and three FireWire ports. This will save users a valuable PCI slot, if not two. The OrangeUSB is unique inasmuch as it offers four USB and three FireWire ports, all on one PCI board. This is accomplished by using Orange Micro’s "Save-a-Slot" technology. The USB 2.0 ports will work simultaneously with the one or two USB 1.1 ports which come standard on most PCs, giving users a total of five or six USB ports. This generally eliminates the need for a user to buy a USB hub. Lastly but most importantly, the OrangeLink+ is "backward compatible" with all USB 1.1 devices. This means it can simultaneously support USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 peripherals at full rated speeds.

The OrangeLink+ USB 2.0/FireWire Combo PCI Board from Orange Micro also has three FireWire ports and Video Editing Software. FireWire is commonly used to connect Digital Video Cameras and it permits users to import video clips. The included software allows user to edit their clips, and create movies, e-mail video, or offer live video on their websites.

USB 2.0 Drivers
Orange Micro is in final beta testing for Windows 98/98SE/2000/Me drivers for USB 2.0 host adapter cards. After recently completing its Mac OS X driver for USB 2.0, Orange Micro has successfully completed the Windows 98/98SE/2000/Me drivers.

Orange Micro’s USB 2.0 Driver for Windows 98/98SE/2000/Me gives consumers the immediate ability to take full advantage of the latest USB 2.0 Hi-Speed technology which offers a data transfer rate of 480Mbits/second. Arthur Scotten, President/CEO of Orange Micro says, "The addition of Windows 98/98SE/2000/Me capability for USB 2.0 is an imperative solution for today’s consumers taking advantage of USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices."

Orange Micro was also first to market with a USB 2.0 PCI upgrade board for desktops and a USB 2.0 CardBus PC Card for laptops, which shipped in March and May respectively. These products are available at major computer and electronics stores worldwide including Fry’s, Circuit City, and MicroCenter.

The OrangeLink+ USB 2.0/ FireWire Combo PCI Board has a list price of $129. Come by and see the OrangeLink+ USB 2.0/FireWire Combo PCI Board at the PC Expo or Mac World Expo, June 26th-28th and July 17th-20th in New York City, NY or contact email Julie Montez at sales at
